This morning campers woke up to the delicious smell of homemade cinnamon bread! Along with the camp favorite, campers enjoyed cereal, orange juice, and hot chocolate to start their day.
After completing their camp duties, it was time to head off to our regularly scheduled classes! With the end of the session quickly approaching, campers have been working hard and many have already had the chance to pass early and move into new swimming levels. Others have been taking advantage of the opportunity to try something new, including learning the basics of canoeing and sailing. It has been so much fun watching campers challenge themselves and discover new activities throughout the session!
Dinner today was a personal favorite and a camp favorite: ravioli, tossed salad, and fresh baguettes! For dessert, campers enjoyed refreshing sherbet, which was the perfect treat to cool down with after another hot summer day.
After dinner, campers headed back to their cabins for rest hour. Once everyone was recharged, we had a very special treat! Our Senior Superstar swimming class put on a synchronized swimming performance for the entire camp. Their theme was The Lorax, and they truly brought the story to life in the lake! The campers put so much creativity, energy, and teamwork into their performance, and it was amazing to watch them show off everything they have been working on.
Following the performance and general swim, it was time for fourth period, where campers headed off to either sports or boating. Then came activity period, where there was something for everyone! Campers could work on crafts and surprises for their Secret Sister, jump off the tower, or get competitive with a game of Gaga.
For anyone new to the Secret Sister tradition, each camper is secretly assigned another camper to be their “sister” for the session. Throughout the session, they can make little crafts, notes, and surprises for their Secret Sister without revealing who they are. It is always so much fun watching the excitement build as campers try to guess who has been leaving them their special surprises!
Supper tonight was… TACO TUESDAY! Of course, since it was Tuesday, we had to celebrate with tacos! And what better way to finish than with fresh-baked churros for dessert?
For tonight’s evening program, we brought back a game that has not been played at Asto Wamah in over SIX YEARS! If you are a past camper or counselor, you may remember this one: Camper vs. Counselor Hide and Seek!
Tonight, the counselors hid all around camp while the campers set out on a mission to find them. Once all of the counselors were found, the roles were reversed and it was the campers’ turn to hide while the counselors searched high and low to find them. There was plenty of running, sneaking, laughing, and a whole lot of excitement as everyone raced around camp trying not to get caught!
It was such a fun throwback to bring back an old camp favorite, and it was truly an amazing way to end another action-packed day at Asto Wamah!
