CAMP ASTO WAMAH ANNIVERSARY FUND

November 2011

Dear Friend of Asto Wamah,
Another year has passed and the 102nd camp season is history.   2011 was a great year at Asto Wamah.  Of the 302 campers, 67 were children of former campers or staff.  Forty-eight of our 71 valued staff were returnees and of the 23 new employees 20 had completed our Leadership Training program in 2010.   Thirty-eight children, who would not have been able to attend camp without financial assistance, enjoyed camperships.  This accounting would not be complete without noting that the 19 outstanding fifteen year olds who completed the Leadership Training program are a strong indication of the bright future that lies ahead for Asto Wamah.
With summer behind us, our focus is now on facility.  That typically includes lots of painting, tree thinning, repairing and general maintenance.   This fall we are also engaged in a building project that is more ambitious than anything we have undertaken in decades.  The donations received in the 100th Anniversary Fund have allowed Asto Wamah to tackle a long-standing problem, our toileting capacity.   We are well along on constructing a building that will house 6 toilets, 2 urinals and 4 sinks, all using a “green” water treatment/composting system.  This environmentally friendly toilet facility will support our goal to care for and protect this special site while educating its participants with eco friendly practices.  This project could not have been started without the generous contributions made by so many celebrating our 100 years.
Throughout the last century, Center Church Camp Asto Wamah has held on to valued traditions.  Traditions such as community building, healthful recreation, and an appreciation for the natural world, all while “remembering the other fellow”.  But in order to be relevant in the 21st Century, we have also acknowledged the importance of modern technology.  Our web site is available 24/7 to introduce searchers to our offerings.  During the summer, a blog is posted daily so that families can know the highlights of their child’s day.  The fact remains, children now benefit from camp as much, if not more, than anytime in history.  Asto Wamah continues to be a place that helps to shape one’s character and life.
The financial support received from friends and alumni has allowed us to remain viable.  In 2011 we have received monetary gifts along with gifts of equipment and services.   If you find that you are in a position to include Asto Wamah in your charitable giving this year, know that we will be grateful for a gift of any size.  It will be used to support the program, facility, campership fund and our overall commitment to young people.  Thank you for your loyalty to Asto Wamah.

Sincerely,
A. Harry Sanders, Chairman
Camp Committee
